The Simpsons has been on TV for approximately 80% of my life and I’ve been watching it for most of those years. I remember driving from Grandma’s house on Sundays about 12 minutes away from home realizing that a new episode started in 10 minutes and I was going to miss the couch gag.
I’ve been away from Canada (most of the year) now for about 5 years and I think The Simpsons is the show that comforts me the most. I can sit on the couch with my supper and pop in an episode and I feel right at home no matter where I am. I just purchased season 22 from my favourite Chinese DVD shop (the one that sells beer) so now I feel like I’m pretty caught up.
I’m a huge sucker for the Canada references too, especially the Winnipeg and Manitoba jokes. Everyone remembers the “That’s it, back to Winnipeg” line from years back but maybe even more awesome is the episode where Homer and Grandpa smuggle pills from Canada. This is way better than the episode of The Office where they pretend to be in Winnipeg by leaving some Old Dutch chips laying around.
I couldn’t help but take a screengrab.
